Featured Dog Breed - The Dachshund
The Dachshund was originally developed in Germany hundreds of years ago and were at that time were bred for hunting, primarily, Badger but also fox and otters. There are three varieties of Dachshund - smooth haired, wire haired and long haired and they come in standard and miniature. Dachshunds love to be around people, are friendly and outgoing. They are neither aggressive nor timid. This breed loves to clown around and can be mischievous. Not recommended for small children as they can be jealous and irritable. They are fine around older children. For the most part a Dachshund is fun loving and lively. Because they tend to be somewhat stubborn at times, training this breed can sometimes be a challenge for the average owner. Smooth haired Dachshunds require very little grooming. The long haired variety does need regular brushing and removal of burrs, twigs and sticks should be done daily because they are so low to the ground. Even though this dog breed is lively, they do tire easily so a lot of exercise is not needed. Short walks at different times of the day are better than one long walk. They are prone to back problems.

In the morning if you notice any eye residue, simply apply a warm wet towel to the eyes to remove this. 3. For long haired dogs, keep hair out of the eyes by trimming it. 4. Be careful when bathing your dog. Put the shampoo into your hands and rub together before applying to your pet's head. This will avoid shampoo running into the eyes.
