Dog Bathing - How to Make it Quick and Easy

Dog bathing can be a pleasant event for some owners and their pets or not. Some dogs think dog baths are fun and others think it is a form of torture. If you have a dog that is afraid of the water, don't put the plug in; let the water flow through the drain and use a sprayer. Not being surrounded by water may alleviate some of the fear.

Whatever your dog's attitude is towards bathing it is a good idea to make it secure. A non-slip rubber mat should be used on the bottom of the bath to keep your furry friend secure.

Prepare for the Bath

1. Brushing your dog before bathing is an important step to remove any matting that is there. The shampoo will also be more effective. If you brush your dog on a day to day basis it will keep his coat clean and healthy.

2. So that you have all your pet's supplies in one place, have a container for the shampoos, conditioners, hair dryer, mists, towel, nail clippers and brush.

3. A protective ointment should be applied to your dog's eyes to shield irritation from the shampoo.

4. While rinsing, water may get into the ear canal; it is best to pack cotton balls into the ear for protection.

6. A raised bath is a great item to have; it saves the back and is better for your dog.

6. I recommend restraints for a fast and easy way to bath your dog. He will not be able to escape and will avoid injury. I will also make it better for you because - no bending. Some baths do come with restraints.

9. Have something for rinsing and wetting your dog, such as a plastic pitcher. Some tubs come supplied with a sprayer. If you do not have one, sprayers can be purchased separately. There are many convenience products on the market, pet spas, dog showers, and sprayers with integrated shampoo cartridges.

5. Other grooming tasks - clean your pet's teeth and ears and clip his nails. If you use a back saving grooming table for this, it is more efficient, easier to work on your four legged friend.

6. Praise and reward your dog for good behavior with treats and lots of love.

Tips for Dog Bathing

1. Being careful not to get shampoo in your pet's eyes, wet a towel with shampoo and water and wipe his face.

2. After you wet your dog thoroughly all over, massage shampoo into coat all the way to the skin from head to tail. For rinsing, a spray does the best job because if any residue remains it could cause skin problems. In any case, rinse well.

3. Leave the restraints on your pet while you towel dry him (if you are using restraints). Finish with a blow dryer on a cool setting and brush your dog again.

You are finished with your dog bathing! I hope it was a happy experience.
