I have a 9 year old shepard mix and a new lab puppy. My oder dog is peeing on my bed. I know she is upset with me that I have brought a new puppy home. How should I deal with this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Pam Grimson

Is Some Jealousy Going on?
by: Donna - dog-beds-n-beyond.com

Hi Pam,

Thanks for the photo. Cute dog!

From the little information I have, I would have to say it sounds as though there is a little jealousy going on. The Shepherd has had all the attention for 9 years and now a new puppy comes on the scene to share in that affection. This may be a temporary situation and your Shepherd is just showing a little protest.

What can you do? First I would make sure your Shepherd is getting enough exercise and attention. Play with the 2 dogs together and maybe she will see the new puppy as a playmate instead of competition.

The other thing I would do is get Pet Repellent
and spray an area around the bed or entrance to the bedroom which would restrict her from that area to try and break the habit. You must show that you are in control and that this is not appropriate behavior.

You did not say but is she accustomed to sleeping on your bed? If that is the case this would be a different scenario. She may be marking her territory, which with females is not usual but can happen.

If these suggestions do not work and it goes on for an extended period of time, you may have to consider obedience training.

Good Luck!
