Dog Travel Crates for Stress Free Travel

Travel crates or carriers are very handy and have many advantages for any dog owner. Portable dog crates come in sizes to accommodate most breeds. Before choosing a crate for travel, consider the type of travel you will be doing, the size of your dog and other uses you will require it for.

Pet Airline Travel

If air travel is in your plans, the style of carrier you choose will depend on the size of your dog. Small breeds are permitted in the cabin of most airlines in a soft dog carrier. Alternatively, if you have a large or extra large dog, he will have to travel in the cargo area and you will need a hard plastic dog carrier. Keep in mind that these travel carriers do need to be airline approved. If you are traveling with your dog by car, you will have more options.

Pet Travel Crates - Select the One That Best Suit You and Your Dog's Needs

Soft, collapsible crates or pet travel bags are lightweight and can be easily stored. Soft crates are not recommended for chronic chewers. The hard plastic dog crates may be taken apart for storage, or kept in one piece. Additionally, wire dog crates may be purchased in the fold and carry versions for home and auto travel. Be certain that your canine friend is well accustomed to the crate prior to the trip.

Besides storage considerations, take your dog’s personality into account when choosing the ideal style portable dog kennel. If your dog is quiet, a nylon bag may be more than adequate. If your dog is aggressive, you may want to consider a sturdier model. The travel crate should allow your dog to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably. There should not be too much room, as the dog could be injured while traveling.

There is a wide price range; it will depend on size, materials, and brand name. On the lower end, you’ll find smaller kennels made of nylon and mesh. On the higher end you will find heavy duty plastic and wire. Many will feature windows as well as doors and dishes that hook securely to the wire. While some may come with padding for the floor, or moisture-resistant finishes. Many of the larger travel crates come equipped with locking wheels so that you may easily transport your pet.

The Perfect Solution When Traveling With a Dog

A portable dog travel carrier has many of advantages, whether it is a long trip or just to the vet’s or other short outings around town. Your dog will have a familiar place while traveling and you will have the peace of mind knowing your best buddy is safe and secure when you must leave him alone for short periods.

An ideal travel crate or carrier should be well ventilated, easily cleaned, safe, sturdy, durable, water resistant and comfortable.
