It turned out to be side effect of advantix. I cannot understand this since it has never affected him before. Thanks for our help.

Restless Dog

If your dog is restless but is still eating and exercising there are a few things I would

  • The anal glands - you can do it yourself or have your vet do it. If you would like to do it yourself we have an article on our website that will explain how to care for anal glands
  • Check your dog with a fine tooth comb for any sign of parasites (fleas, ticks and ear mites). Again you can do this yourself or have your vet do it. Below is an explanation as to how to do that.
  • It may be allergies. Skin allergies can definitely cause restlessness and this can sometimes be caused from dog food because there are so many additives in supermarket brands. There is an article on our site that you may like to read on natural organic dog food.
  • The teeth are another area that could be a problem, dog do need good dental care. The teeth should be clean, white and little or no bad breath or chipped or broken teeth.
  • Maybe it is a comfort problem, this can cause restlessness if your dog's bed is not comfortable. If you feel this could be an issue there are many ideas at the best dog beds for your pet and launder the bedding regularly. This prevents parasites and germs.
  • It could be a hormone imbalance.
  • Dry skin from allergies or bathing too often.
  • Don't feed your pet late at night.
  • Has there been any changes in your dog's routine or any trauma?
  • If it is boredom, a new toy or more interaction may do the trick.

If all checks out, I would see a vet and make sure it is not a medical problem. I may be a good idea to do this anyway just to make sure everything is ok.

Ear Mites
by: Donna - dog-beds-n-beyond

Checking for Ear Mites

Ear mites can cause restlessness and the ears should be checked on a regular basis. Take a cotton swab and inspect the ears but be careful not to go too deep. A normal ear would be moist, dark and warm. If mites are present, you will notice a foul smelling odor from a brownish discharge and the ear will probably be painful. The ear will look far from normal. If the ear is clogged with the discharge from the mites it will promote bacteria and infection. See a vet if this is the case as it can damage the eardrums. Floppy eared dogs are more prone to this because air movement is restricted. Shaking of the head is another symptom of mites.
